About Us

Our Story

For more than half a century, Lomagundi Lakeside has been Kariba’s quiet constant — the kind of place that stays with you long after you’ve left.

Nestled on the shores of Lake Kariba along Kariba’s Power Line Road, we are a private association of holiday homes and self-catering accommodation with deep roots in Zimbabwe’s history. Our chalets were originally built by fishing clubs from across the country, offering their members a simple, no-fuss base to bring the family, cast a line, and forget about the world for a while. That original spirit — unpretentious, unhurried, genuinely welcoming — is still exactly what you’ll find here today.

Lake Kariba is one of the world’s largest man-made lakes, and from our grounds you have direct access to it. Whether you’re watching the sun drop behind the Matusadona hills, listening to the hippos graze on the lawns after dark (yes, really), or heading out at dawn with rods and a flask of tea, Lomagundi Lakeside puts you right at the heart of it.

Things To Do

Swim in our large pool, eat and drink at The Dome — our open-air thatched restaurant and bar overlooking the harbour, open daily 7am–10pm. The Thursday Peri Peri Chicken special is a Kariba favourite.
Our shaded grounds are well-kept and full of life. Every evening, hippos emerge from the lake to graze on the lawns — one of those only-in-Zimbabwe moments you won’t forget.
Boat launch facilities are on site, and we can arrange fishing charters, sunset cruises, game drives, and day trips to Matusadona and Mana Pools.
